Classic Caprice.

The seeds for Cadillac’s slide into near irrelevance started here:

Read half of instructions, posting Capri.

Zakspeed, Capri

nah
![]() 12/20/2016 at 12:48 |

Made after the Caprice ended production, so you could say it’s post-Caprice

“post” Caprice, right?
![]() 12/20/2016 at 12:49 |
|
Wrong. The classic Caprice has four doors:

Impala SS was still around then, I think.
![]() 12/20/2016 at 12:51 |

Keep Oppo Caprice

What I hate are six-foot-long doors on coupes.
![]() 12/20/2016 at 12:52 |
|
That’s the joke.
![]() 12/20/2016 at 12:53 |

I liked the 77 better. Dat back win doe.
![]() 12/20/2016 at 12:55 |

Giant car, 2 doors.
![]() 12/20/2016 at 12:55 |
|
Nope. Impala took a break for a few years to save room for the Lumina.

While the Crown Vic is in every way a robust and dependable whip, the 9C1 was a superior car. In police duty, the Caprice outperformed the Vic in power, braking and even
fuel economy
. The Caprice also has a taller cabin and is thus much more comfortable; the seating position is more
commanding
. No panther hating here, just testifying to the outstandingness of the Caprice and its superiority to the Panther.

A lot of people don’t recall this, but the sixth gen Eldorado/first gen Toronado had two sets of door handles - one for the rear seat passengers. At no point did somebody ask “why is this not a four door?”

Bathtub Caprice is best Caprice.

More like didgeri-don’t! Amirite?
![]() 12/20/2016 at 13:01 |

I’m talking about the B-Body Impala SS... Lumina LTZ overlapped it by 1 year in 1996.
And the new Impala IS the Lumina.
![]() 12/20/2016 at 13:03 |
|
That’s not where I was going with that at all.
![]() 12/20/2016 at 13:08 |
|
spoken like a man who has had to shim the sagging doors of a ‘70s F-Body at least once.
![]() 12/20/2016 at 13:08 |
|
Oh, I wasn’t specifying the LTZ trim, just the Lumina which continued past the B-body.
![]() 12/20/2016 at 13:18 |
|
Yeah... but the LTZ you posted is intended to be a “substitute” for the Impala SS, but I’m sure both were on the lots at the same time.
![]() 12/20/2016 at 13:18 |

That car was originally ugly as sin, but the Hofmeister kink saved it.
![]() 12/20/2016 at 13:18 |
|
You missed the point. It’s a Lumina. It doesn’t matter what trim. It’s post-Caprice. Impala isn’t Caprice.
![]() 12/20/2016 at 13:27 |

The 1996 Impala SS WAS a Caprice. Just like a Mercury Marauder is a Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis.
![]() 12/20/2016 at 13:30 |
|
Okay, so I didn’t post a Lumina, I posted a Cutlass Supreme.
![]() 12/20/2016 at 13:47 |

I was probably too busy retching to ask.
![]() 12/20/2016 at 13:49 |

I wasn’t going anywhere either, really, other than a general rant theme. I know there are a bunch of Panther lovers on Oppo and I thought you might be one of them. It’s all good. I lament the passing of the American body-on-frame RWD sedan. But the Caprice was the best...

I never have, but, pretty much.
![]() 12/20/2016 at 16:22 |

See now, that’s what I LIKE .... but I’m a weirdo.

A buddy of mine had one just like it. His parents had purchased it new, and it was still going with 350k miles on it.
